Burlington Girls Soccer Preview

Coach: Jeff Hayes (11th season)

Last season: 6-7-3; lost to Burr and Burton in Division I quarterfinals

Key returnees: Tatum Vachereau, forward, senior; Fiona Dunn, midfield, senior; Luci Young, defense, senior; Zoe Peterson, defense, junior; Helen Worden, midfield, sophomore; Maggie Barlow, midfield, sophomore; Maia Vota, midfield, sophomore; Galen Moore, midfield, sophomore

Key newcomers: Too early to tell.

Outlook: Freshman-heavy a season ago when they pushed eventual state champion Burr and Burton deep into double overtime in the playoffs, the Seahorses figure to be one of the state’s most exciting outfits this fall. “Now we’re just overloaded with sophomores, which is awesome,” Hayes said. “Last year was a great experience for these kids and now they’re coming in hungry, excited.” Leadership from seniors such as Vachereau, Dunn and Young has been hugely important, said Hayes, who has last year’s JV goalie, Klara Martone, making the jump to replace four-year starter Norah Mitchell.
