Coach: Joe McDonald (28th season)
Last season: 5-4; lost to Rutland in Division I quarterfinals
Key returnees: Marcus Aloisi, FB/LB, senior; Michael Bergeron, OL/LB, senior; Brett Bohlmann, OL/DL, senior; Bassiru Diawara, QB, junior; Kai Schmidt-Bilowith, RB/DE senior
Key newcomers: Too early to tell.
Outlook: Year 2 of the Burlington-South Burlington cooperative program — which includes pulling from Winooski as well — arrives with the challenge of overcoming heavy graduation and prep-school losses. However, Schmidt-Bilowith, a hurdles champion in track and field, is a speedy game-changer out of the backfield and Bohlmann is one of the state’s best two-way lineman. Aloisi and Bergeron also bring experience and Diawara, a playmaker at receiver a year ago, will have plenty more opportunities to shine in his first year as a starting quarterback. “Our backs and skill guys are OK and our linemen are young,” McDonald said. “We don’t have a lot of returnees across the board, but I have good guys, a good core.” The SeaWolves have around 50 players in the program.
Opener: Friday vs. Burr and Burton at Buck Hard Field
