2021 Chittenden County high school boys soccer outlook

Coach: Fran Demasi (eighth season)

Last season: 10-2-2; defeated Essex for Division I championship

Key returnees: Gonzalaiz Arakaza, forward, senior; Karl Daly, defense, senior; Joey Manley, forward, junior; Ethan Park, defense, senior; Nolan Simon, midfield/forward, senior

Key newcomers: Too early to tell.

Outlook: The Seahorses roared to the 2020 crown, a title run built around defender Sam Hogg, midfield general Nash Barlow and attacking player Jake Manley. But the trio of all-state players have departed the program — Hogg and Manley graduated; Barlow left for prep school — along with six others, creating big holes for the Seahorses. Demasi returns five players with varsity experience, including Arakaza, who scored the overtime winner in the final, and defenders Daly and Park. “I think we are solid in the back. The question is if we can control the middle and who’s going to put the ball in the net?”  Demasi said. “It’s a good group, we have 25 kids, and they are going to come along nicely.”
